Scarlett Johansson (born November 22 1984 New York City New York, U.S.) American actor and performer whose performance versatility earned her praise across a range of genres ranging from period drama to action and thriller. Johansson was born in New York City, and raised there by her father, an architect, and mother who produced. She and her twin brother Hunter were the youngest of four siblings. Her interest began in acting from a very young age and was auditioning for commercials before age seven. Soon after she enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute and afterwards went to the Professional Children's School in Manhattan to further refine her skills. Johansson made her debut an actor in the film North (1994) aged nine. She was just eight when she appeared with Ethan Hawke on Off-Broadway in Sophistry. Johansson later appeared in Just Cause (1995) but her debut came in Manny & Lo (1996) which was a film about orphaned sisters who run away. Her next film won the attention of critics for her character in the film as a teen who been injured in a horrific accident in The Horse Whisperer (1998) as well as further recognition as cynical teen who is a solitary Rebecca on the set of Ghost World (2001). Smith landed a debut acting job at the young age of six, with her parents' help. She created a commercial with Dannon. Like many actresses who are new, she chose to develop her talent in theatre. In addition to other projects in the USA she also had her theatrical debut in Wildflower. She studied in Stonestreet Studios, the Stonestreet Studios Conservatory of the New York University Tisch School of the Arts.
